August 12, 2012 sketch 1

My dad and I went to some camp place today with the church we've been going to. I thought I'd bring a little sketch book and some colored pencils and see if I could pratice with scenery a little bit. I didn't color in the leaves until after starting two other pictures, because clouds had covered the sun and I wanted to try getting the colors right. But, it seemed like the sun just didn't want to stay out anymore, and I kind'a wanted to hurry up and get it over with (I wanted to work more on the third pic, but wanted to finish this one). So, the leaves on the tree are kind of messed up. ^_^" They're also suposed to be shiny, but I wasn't sure how to do that. And I couldn't find quite the colors I wanted. I think it was a gum tree. It had dark red/brown leaves.

The scanner took out the red. :/ At least on my monitor.
I tried adjusting it in Photoshop to add more red, but I couldn't get it quite right. The magenta and raspberry colors look almost the same on my monitor, and the peach color isn't as bright and noticeable, either (looking in the corner at my key - but it's also noticeable in the bush, because I used the magenta for small highlights. Everything looks kind'a purpleish instead of redish >_>" Hopefully the other two pictures will scan better).

I think each of the three pictures I did took about an hour to sketch (at least, I think the three of them together were done in about three hours).
I sketched this one with pencil to get the shape right, before coloring it, but the second one, I didn't, and the third one, I only sketched a bit of the rocks in the foreground.
